Book LIAR (Madison Kate Book 2) Review :

I have been sitting here after finally closing this book, and I still can't stop my mind from racing almost as much as my heart.LIAR might have cracked something open inside me that I didn't know was dying to spill out. HATE was great, introduced us to a fierce, flawed and powerful Madison Kate Danvers and the trio of men she loved to hate and hated to love. But LIAR... LIAR...is raw. It crept into my mind and heart page by page, small moment by small moment in a way few books have, and that's 1000% due to Tate James pouring her soul into her art. Because storytelling like THIS is ART.I liked MK in Hate. I liked Kodiak, Steele and Archer (well, not always Archer, but I have held out hope, OK?). But in this book, Tate James had pulled back a curtain I didn't know was there and these characters burned a path right into me. They cracked open my heart and incinerated walls, every one of them. And yes this book was hot and heavy and intense but the relationships between these characters, the vulnerability... I've only read maybe three series in my whole life that had bonds that an author let develop so naturally, and I'm not actually sure any of them captured the emotional complexities as well as Tate did with Liar.I won't spoil anything by saying this, but I'll still word it carefully. In my mind, this series hinges on MK coming to terms with emotions and control. Control over our emotions and their control over us, specifically hate, trust and love thus far. There is a long arc of moments when MK- who since the first book has been tireless in her pursuit of the truth and her desire to use it as armour, for honesty and for trust as a means of taking back control - decides she isn't a slave to her emotions and is so vulnerable and brave. Moments she makes this decision to bend and not break, to give up her grip on the illusion of control and offer trust knowing it could be used against her. Moments where a girl who had spent ages feeling controlled, afraid, and betrayed allows herself to be vulnerable in order to be happy and feel worthy of that happiness even if it isn't in the way she expected... And it shows us just what powerful, complex characters Tate has written. I didn't even realize that's what was happening until after because it happened so authentically and organically. The ending of this book rocked me to my core, I just can't imagine... Whew. But this is one book where, even with a massive bombshell being dropped in the last pages, the little moments between characters and the journey they've taken will be what sticks out in my mind and brings me back over and over again. You will not regret reading this book, or the reread I can almost guarantee you'll do too. The perfectly subtle foreshadowing, mystery, story weaving and character growth guarantees it's worth it, I promise.
This one is pretty similar to book one. Yes I really do like the concept and the story itself. It will keep you wondering, guessing, and wanting more. The stalker is actually the most interesting part for me because I want to know who the heck it is.I still don’t like that the guys say something mean or drop a messed up truth bomb on her and she’s like ‘yeah I want to tap that’ immediately afterwards. It kind made the sex scenes not as fiery because it’s how in the world can she stand being touched by people keeping some obviously messed up secrets from her. I get that they are hot but she could definitely play them better since they are all into her. Like girl use what you got and don’t play fair. She just seems so complacent in everything.Again the FMC isn’t the brightest. The big cliffhanger wasn’t unexpected for me. I had my suspicions in the first book and a conversation between the guys and another important character confirmed it for me pretty early into the second. I really don’t like any of the guys at this point so I just want to cringe when she interacts with them. Also I don’t know who needs to hear this but never drink a drink at a club you didn’t see poured yourself or was left unattended for even a moment. The only exception would have been the guys grabbing a drink for her in her case because she can at least trust they aren’t trying to kill or physically harm her. So that whole part had me shaking my tablet in annoyance. Like no wonder they want to keep her at home, every time she’s out - she makes terrible decisions.I realize a lot of these are personal preferences and only took a star away because it was too similar to the first book. A lot of unanswered questions. No real answers until the end. No change or growth in any of the characters or really their relationships. The mistrusts and lies are all still there which you can’t really have a relationship with someone when they are hiding things from you.I 100% recommend this book but be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster. I’m really hoping the truth bomb at the end there wakens her up. These guys deserve to be given hell and she shouldn’t take them back until they grovel before her. Fingers crossed she really lets them all have it in the next book.
